1. findateacher.Net is OPEN! (...took long enough!)
----------------------------------------------------------
Welcome to the first issue of The Solo Sensei, the monthly newsletter from findateacher.Net and part of your findateacher.Net membership.
First, we'd like to say sorry for the long wait. Making the site as powerful for you as it is now took much longer than we originally planned. PLUS we're working to make it much more powerful.
We are happy to say that we have more native language teachers than most of the 4-letter language schools in only 8 months of being open. Thanks to you.
----------------------------------------------------------
2. Your record (probably) needs to be updated
----------------------------------------------------------
Many teachers still haven't come back to update their record after we've added
over 20 new optional fields. The new fields will remain blank and make your record look like a ghost town until filled in.
New fields include such things as: educational background, hobbies, distance from the meeting place to the study location, your teaching style, and other things students often ask about. (More "fun" fields are on the way!)
The more information students have before contacting you, the sooner they'll begin asking about where and when they can begin your class - instead of asking where you're from, how much your class is, your distance from the station, etc.
To update your record log in at:
http://findateacher.Net
Remember, to select more than one language to teach, hobby, past language school you've taught at, teaching methods, personality (and others) hold the control key as you make your selection (or Apple key on Macs)
...and if you are no longer in Japan or would like to remove your record, please let us know (remove-me@findateacher.Net).
----------------------------------------------------------
3. Your PICTURE paints a thousand words (and hits!)
----------------------------------------------------------
Adding your photo to your record is a certain way to increase the number of hits (times your record is viewed) by prospective students.
Our testing revealed that prospective students were 87% more likely to view those records containing a picture than those without pictures. Regardless of the other details - including price per lesson.
Our staff is prepared to get your photo into the database within 24 hours after being received. Here's how to get a photo to us:
A. Upload a photo when you log into your record.
B. Send a printed photo (returnable if a self-addressed stamped envelope is included) to FindaNet, Ltd, PO Box 195, Yokohama Central Post Office, Naka-ku, Yokohama, Japan 231.
C. If you live near a Kinko's (locations throughout Japan are listed at http://www.kinkos.co.jp) you can scan and upload a photo from there too (for about 150 yen).
==>REMEMEBER: A picture can work FOR or AGAINST you so try to choose carefully.
----------------------------------------------------------
4. Why you will CRAVE to read the Solo Sensei every month.
----------------------------------------------------------
Future issues of Solo Sensei will include important statistics about YOUR RECORD and how it is being accessed - like:
1. Number of times that month your record was VIEWED
2. Total number of times its been VIEWED since you signed up
3. Number of times your record was CHECKED-OUT by students this week
4. Total times your record was CHECKED-OUT since you signed up
5. Starting date of your record
6. Number of days in database
7. Date of your record's last update
...and several more
This information is sent ONLY to you.
----------------------------------------------------------
5. See your record NOW!
----------------------------------------------------------
If you are wondering what your record looks like to prospective students (in Japanese) you can view it by searching in the areas you signed up in at:
http://findateacher.Net/cgi-bin/tsearchJ.cgi
If you have any questions, the help button (big red question mark) on that page also has English explanations.
----------------------------------------------------------
6. POWER TIP - How to stay on top
----------------------------------------------------------
Besides adding a picture, a great way to have your record viewed by lots of students is to keep it up to date. You see...teachers who update their records are shifted to the top of the list for their area and given a "New" mark (in blue). Newly signed up teachers get a red "New" mark.
The date of your last update is displayed on your record & students are advised to select teachers with updated records.
----------------------------------------------------------
7. Tell us how to better help you.
----------------------------------------------------------
This web site is for you - so please let us know how we can make it better for you, if you see something that you think is missing or if something isn't working properly for you. (The Netscape version is almost ready!)
For example:
Is there a statistic you'd like to see about your record?
Is there a language (or something else) we left out of the questionnaire?
Is there a typo in the site? (or many!?)
...anything at all. Please let us know at: admin@findateacher.Net
Good luck and get lots of students!
Until next time,
Jake Rollins
